GEORGIA PINEYWOODS BREEDER CHRIS DORSEY SHARES HOW PINEYWOODS ARE HELPING HIM COPE WITH PTSD

Updated: Aug 29, 2019

I'm Chris Dorsey and in 2019 Pineywoods made their return to the North Georgia Mountains here on Red Wolf Farms. This was a two year long process of research to find a breed that fit not only us as a family but was a perfect fit for what we do. We use the Pineywoods for everything they were meant for and then some.

After returning home from combat in Iraq I found myself struggling with traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress. I found relief in agriculture and animal husbandry. This led to starting Warrior Farms. Warrior Farms is North Georgias first Veteran healing farm. We use agriculture as an educational and therapeutic tool to help veterans get their live on track. While the Pineywoods we currently have are our little families herd they are always on loan to Warrior Farms for the use of helping veterans.

To add even more meaning to what we are doing we chose Pineywoods cause they are living history. Because of this breed we have made it to where we are as a society today. Pineywoods are the backbone of what the beef industry has become. Unfortunately this founding breed and its amazing story stands a chance of being lost forever. Not it we can help it. Long live the Pineywoods!!!
